Pinball Tournament!

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Phoenix Nest Classic Video Arcade is proud to announce our first ever pinball tournament.  For our first tournament we decided to keep it small, to work out any potential snags.  If all goes well there will be a longer tournament later in June!

The pinball machine will be SPIDERMAN.  Players will need to register their name, initials, and phone number with Dan at the store prior to playing.  There is no entry fee other than the cost of playing the games, which will be 50 cents in tournament mode.  Tournament will run from opening of business Saturday (May 31) until close of business Sunday (June 1), with the player with the highest score taking top prize:  a $10 gift certificate for Docking Bay 93 and a piece of pinball art, the backbox translite from Capcom’s last prototype pinball machine, Big Bang Bar.

We plan to run at least one tournament/league every month in the arcade, and hope that you will play!

Nothing at all to do with the arcade

Just wanted to say that the landing of the NASA Phoenix Mars Lander can be watched live at  So far the coverage is quite dull (but very informative), but should get more interesting as the 4:53 (Pacific time) landing gets closer.

Bit of a delay starting running tournaments, I want to ‘shop out’ Spider-man first (basically, go over it with a fine tooth comb for problems and adjustments, clean the heck out of it, things like that), and my wonderful cat shredded the back of my left hand.  It’s healed to the point I can work on the games again, so I should have an update up soon, check back tomorrow!  Just wanted you to know I hadn’t forgotten!

I need to get in the habit of posting here more often.  Two quick updates:

First, I realised there is no list of games in the arcade anywhere.   BIG OVERSITE on my part.  I’m working on a page for that, expect it in a few days.  In the mean time, the VAPS entry linked from the blog is almost accurate, the exceptions being Mystic Marathon and Moon Patrol are not in the arcade right now, and Tempest is turned off due to math box issues.  For Pinball machines, we have Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, Spiderman, the Simpsons, and Star Wars:  Episode 1.

Second, we intend to run a pinball tournament soon.  Hope to have a notice up here and in the store early in the week.  Just need to nail down logistics (oh, and I guess I should tell Dan, too… :) )

Pinballs that should be made, volume 1:  IRON MAN!  Stern is currently manufacturing Indiana Jones, so Iron Man is improbable, but with all the metallic reds and golds, Iron Man would be one eye-catching machine.  Not that I’ve designed it in my head or anything…
